VDL ETG Projects.

Welcome to the website of VDL ETG Projects. In order to better understand our company, you need to know our position in the VDL Group and more specifically within ETG, the Enabling Technology Group.

VDL ETG Projects is an advanced turnkey partner in the development, production, assembly and worldwide installation of production equipment, OEM machines, devices or mechatronic systems. This includes one-offs, as well as rollouts, prototypes, small (repetitive) series and, in special cases, complex volume production (f.e. segment supports of the E-ELT). With some specific knowledge, competences and services, we work together with OEM companies.

The VDL group is a 100% family business and consists of approximately 100 operating companies with over 16,000 employees and has companies in about 20 countries. The combined annual turnover in 2016 amounted to 3.2 billion euros.
The group of companies combines the strength of a multinational with the flat organization and the open, informal working atmosphere of a family business.
You can clearly state that the VDL companies are flexible and financially strong!

Within the VDL it is all about the manufacturing industry, about technology and craftsmanship. VDL ETG has a large share in this and is strongly technologically driven and thanks to its type of customers in f.e. the semicon it has a high degree of professionalism and has deep specialist knowledge. ETG's customers set high standards and that is what we comply to.

VDL ETG Projects mainly focuses on innovating and realizing projects in machine construction, with a low production volume. One piece or small series, sometimes more. 100% special (manufacturing) machines is our roots with the necessary successful installations worldwide. VDL ETG Projects is rightfully a "low volume - high mix" company.

We have a unique position and we cherish that. As part of VDL and ETG we have access to knowledge and professionalism of a technology leader and the strength and stability of a multinational and the agility of an SME company.

Every company owes its success to its people, that also applies to VDL ETG Projects. Everyone in our organization counts, because only together we get satisfied customers.

“I am proud of what we have achieved together. A great team effort", according Harrie Schonewille, Managing Director.

VDL ETG Projects was originally a mechanization company that was responsible for all aspects of installing worldwide production lines. All the competencies for that activity are present within our organization. We have built on this foundation and developed further. Four core competences are decisive for our success, these are the competences that we continue to invest in.

  1. Project management to unburden the customer and manage risks with professional tools from VDL ETG with our own pragmatics.
  2. Supply Chain management to offer the customer a price advantage. The purchase volume to have a position in "low volume" is essential and we have that through the variety of projects.
  3. Development & Engineering because innovative power makes the difference. Knowledge of system engineering, mechanization, robotization, etcetera, together with partners in and outside the group.
  4. All-round assembly: realization, construction, commissioning, testing and worldwide installation: all-round technicians with capacities, also on location at our customers.

Strength through cooperation. This is the strength of VDL Groep and the driving force of VDL ETG Projects. It is essential for a project organization to work together with partners. The intake of projectsorganisation is generally erratic. A quick response is possible by working together with regular partners. This in terms of capacity, knowledge and use of experiences. In Eindhoven Brainport we know that an open and transparent partnership strengthens us together. Rarely that we do not use partners or specialists from our network, within the VDL ETG group and beyond.

In the daily hectic of orders, an OEM in machine construction is focused on the fulfillment of customer requirements. In practice, it is difficult to free up capacity and knowledge in your own organization in order to structurally develop, implement rationalization of your modules and options, develop and offer an entry model, etcetera.
This is precisely where the added value of VDL ETG Projects lies: strong in innovation and realization.

The most effective approach to cost reduction is redesigning. With methods such as value engineering, steps can be taken, that is undeniable. Engineering capacity is on the other hand preferably used for new developments with higher return on investment. Almost just as effective, but faster is a well-organized supply chain. Purchasing volume is desirable and we have that.

If the assembly share in the cost price is decisive, building with lower rates, while retaining craftsmanship is the wish. Co-bots and maximum automation will eventually prevent a transfer to a low wage country. Even if a transfer is desirable, because a module, a device, a machine has sufficient purchasing volume in itself, then a transition in the VDL group to the "east" is possible.
